The New Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order is here
As of the 1st October 2006 a new and very important change to fire safety legislation takes place in the England, the new act replaces a raft of old fire safety regulations including the current 1971 Fire Precautions Act. For the first time this new law means that any premises where people work, meet or gather must carry out a Fire Risk Assessment, if five or more persons are involved at the premises then the assessment must be completed in writing and will be inspected by the Fire Authority. It is vital that any employer or other person responsible for a premises is aware of this new legislation as the penalties are severe and include fines and even imprisonment for non-compliance.
